Your website should be the BEST marketing tool at your company’s disposal. ALL businesses, not just ecommerce businesses, benefit from well-designed, search optimized websites. Bottom line, your website should be attracting ideal clients and generating highly qualified leads on a DAILY basis.
I spend quite a bit of time helping companies tweak their websites for better results. Whether it is writing content to help improve SEO rankings or redesigning the flow of a site to increase lead generation, here are the two most common issues I see that hamper success.
Poorly Designed Website
Poorly Designed websites are everywhere! While the “look” of your site is important, the type of poorly designed site I am referring to is one that lacks a clear “home page” message. In an attempt to capture a visitors’ attention, sometimes people resort to some interesting tactics. From Flash videos that cannot be viewed on all devices to information OVERLOAD, your “home page” is vitally important to your website success. If you want your website to be a powerful marketing tool, your “home page” must communicate who you are, what you do, how you can help, and how to get in touch in a very clear, concise way.
Not Enough Content
While a few companies can go a bit overboard with too much content, most websites lack content. Website content affects your search engine rankings. If you want your website to rank well in Google searches, your pages have to contain a certain number of words per page. And yes, keywords and relevancy matter too! Most companies have a simple one or two paragraph page and honestly that is just not enough. By tweaking content and/or adding a blog component to your site you can improve your online visibility. Now if you are currently sitting on the front page of Google for your keywords and your site lacks enough content, congratulations, but beware. Companies can and will come along with better content and before you know it you will be on page two!
Focus on making your website the BEST marketing tool for your company! It’s a powerful resource already at your disposal. Improve the content and design, and you can have a website that is consistently producing highly qualified and targeted leads for your business.
To your success,
