LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network, with over 300 million members. So whether you are a business owner, job seeker, or career professional, LinkedIn should not be ignored. Having a completed, well-optimized LinkedIn profile, will help you stand out from the competition and help you make more connections.
Did you know that your LinkedIn profile has a number of sections that can be optimized? That simply means that much like search results in Google, if you use good keywords to describe yourself and your skill set, then you will show up in more LinkedIn search results. By showing up more often, you increase your chances of making more meaningful business connections. Here are three areas of your LinkedIn profile that can and should be optimized:
Your profile description is the very top section of your LinkedIn Profile, located directly to the right of your profile picture. This is the first optimized section you encounter on your profile page. While people typically just list their title, you should use keywords related to what you do in this section. People are typically searching for something more specific than simply CEO, so as you can see in the example below I used search terms related to what I do and the value I offer.
The next optimized area of your profile is the Summary section. Write a description that details the value you would provide a potential client or employer. Include within that description, specific keywords and search terms that might be used to find you.
Located within the Summary section of your LinkedIn profile, you will find another optimized area that can be optimized- Specialties. This is the section where you need to list very specific keyword phrases related to your career, skill set, and industry.
So think about the terms that people might be searching for related to your industry. For example, if you are in finance, people might be searching for financial planner. Think carefully of specific terms you can use in the optimized areas to improve your results. And while these are not the only areas that can be optimized for better results, this is an excellent place to start. I’d love to connect with you on LinkedIn.
